Mama and I were enjoying some sun one day in 1964, when she took this picture of me in our backyard. We were living in a house on my paternal grandfather's farm. There were several houses on his property and the one we lived in was known as, "the house at the end of the lane." This farmhouse was at the end of the gravel road that led from a main road and cut through the farm. Below the house flowed the Red River and there was also an old slave graveyard. Fun was had with that graveyard every now and then. I was 1 1/2 years old in this picture. I am probably trying to figure out where I am going to sit in the water because there are so many toys in this little wading pool. Mama loved to have us amongst toys. When I was older, people would tell me that they remembered visiting when I was a baby and mama would have me in the middle of the playpen, surrounded by toys. There were so many toys that the only way they could tell I was in the playpen, was if I moved. I guess it was the same situation with the wading pool. Oh yeah, and it looks like my hair is in those pincurls. Tight pincurls.
Y'all wade on over and visit my hostess, Deborah, to check out more Family Fotos.

Nothing better than the old blow up pools. We thought we were in high cotton back then! Precious photo!

I remember those blow up pools, they were fun! You know, I couldn't help but notice your post about Obama below. I personally like the painting and what it represents. I think art is a form of personal expression. I don't think people voted for Obama because he is black, I think they voted for him because our country needed a change. If I had a dream for "our" country, it would be just to see people for what they are, regardless if they are democrat, republican, white, black, whatever. But at least the good thing is, we are all still blessed to have differences of opinions in Amercia! Again, thanks for sharing the photo! Take care, Sue
OHHH that is a GREAT photo!!
I DO remember those pincurls...I actually even tried them on my girls when they were little....didn't go over too well!

Hi Montee, you look so small and cute in that wading pool. Your toys are a fun part of that photo. I enjoyed the story too.
Hugs...Jeanne
what a cutie!!!!
What great memories. I love to look at all the pictures of myself as a child.
In answer to your question on my blog post about the swine flu...we've had several school districts close for the next week or so to stop the spread of a few cases. I'm just cautious of germs for my little one all the time. Especially in all the playground areas and shopping carts.
Have a great weekend.
I think you needed a larger pool...those pin curls - I remember my mother pin curling my hair and hers. Every time I see a bobby pin - I think of that.
Thank you, Montee!
Thanks I went to the website and looked it up. I hope he will go try out, it can't hurt. If he don't make it he won't be any worse off than he is now...He misses ball more than he thought he would.
I sure hope you aren't getting the pig flu or any of this crud...it ain't no fun, this is 2 weeks I've had it. I'm not going to be able to go tomorrow night, just makes me sick.

Thanks for sharing the story of your son with me. It is heartening to know how many brave mothers are out there sharing similar experiences to mine. I wish the best for your dear son!
What a wonderful photo to have. Your Mom wanted to make sure you didn't get bored. ;-)
